Print Auction

Updated: Nov 7, 2018

On 28th February 2019 both Years 2 and 3 will be holding a Print Auction where we will be selling prints to the public from well known photographers. We started our first initial talks at the start of the term but now we are about 4 weeks into talks and we are all in our groups now. I am in the design team. In the design team each person has had to come up with a first initial logo which will then be decided by the whole group. I have never made a logo before so I was quite unsure what to do but I have managed to make a logo that I have asked for opinions on and people like it so I have put it forward to be decided on.

My logo:

To start the logo I only had the name of the auction so I didn't have much to go on. Everyone else who had made a design had used a camera in the logo so I wanted to steer away from there. I decided to focus my logo on the ISO structure so that it actually fits with the title of the Print Auction. We haven't decided on a colour scheme for the logo so I went for black, white and red. I was worried that the logo looked like a dart board but since finishing it and having opinions on it everyone understands it.

Notes from the most recent meeting:

  • One of the PM's met up with Paige from the SU and the student space has already been booked out for us to use for the Print Auction but we need to decide on times of the event and send them to her.

  • There are different options for running the bar. The SU would rather they run it which would probably be easier for us but means they take all the profit from the bar.

  • We need to create a floor plan.

  • We need to think about the use of microphones.

  • We need to ask about the auctioneer, as using an auctioneer seems more professional

  • Once we have a poster we need to send it to the SU so they can put it on their Instagram and Facebook to help publicise - a job for design I guess

  • Provide tablecloths for the tables as they're old and fit the art college vibe but not Print Auction vibe.

  • To sell books leftover from book auction, book out cart/reception on open days/normal college days

  • Start emailing people about donating prints. 5 people a week. One group emailing 20 people a week.

  • The instagram has been made.

  • Twitter and Facebook page has to be made once the logo is decided.

By next week:

  • The logo is to be decided.

  • Everyone to contact 5 people.

  • Think about ideas for a kickstater.
