As I am part of the design team for the print auction one of the first main tasks has been to design a logo. I have never designed a logo before so it was going to be quite a challenge for me. Each person in the design team had to come up with a logo and then they would be presented to everyone and then the best one would be decided. I wanted mine to be linked to ISO in some way or another.
I decided to go for the ISO scale as photographers would know what it stood for but not necessarily anyone else so I liked the thought that some people would look at it and think what it is. I'm hoping if it gets chosen then people will stop and look. We don't have a colour scheme yet so I went with a colour that I thought would suit my design the best. I started creating the base of the logo first before adding any colour.
I started by creating an oval filled in black as I thought that could represent the shutter being closed and would give a bit more space for the writing to go over and be seen when that got put on.
I then carried on creating circles around the one in the centre until I had seven around the outside. I made them all different thicknesses as that's how the ISO scale goes so I wanted to replicate the scale as accurately as I could.
I ended up with a logo that looked a little bit like a dartboard so I then added the text. The Print Auction is called ISO/19 so I decided to put the text across the logo. I used the font American Typewriter because I thought it was nice and bold and would really stand out. To make it stand out even more I decided to make the font red because I thought it contrasted well with the black and the white. Now I just have to wait and see if anyone likes the design. I hope they can understand the reasoning behind the logo.
Below is the final logo:
