David LaChapelle - Research

I have come across David LaChapelle before but I thought about researching his work today because of how much colour he includes in his images as I want my images to be really colourful so they stand out but also Alice in Wonderland is very colourful. He is also quite a controversial artist using religion and the church in his imagery and artwork.

"LaChapelle combines religious narratives in his work, which, throughout history, have been introduced into art by the church and were intended to preach and glorify its power. LaChapelle opts for the tolerant facet of religion, focusing on sermons which preach for love, forgiveness, and acceptance of the other".

Burning Down the House is a portrait by LaChepelle of the late Alexander McQueen and his 'goddess' Isabella Blow. When I first saw this picture it all of a sudden made me look and think Alice in Wonderland. The picture was originally released in 1997 for the 'Swinging London' edition of Vanity Fair. The image was taken at Hedingham Castle in Essex in December 1996, the photo shows McQueen at the front displaying a flaming torch accompanied by Isabella, with the castle burning in the background. The way this image has been set up is the type of way I want my images to be set up. In the foreground I want all of the detail and the colour and then in the background I want it to look dark and mysterious. I'm hoping to be able to use a ranger pack to create this.

I have found a few more colourful images of LaChepelle's that I like but unfortunately can't find any information about them.
