Green Screen

Today we had an induction on the Green Screen and I had so much fun making the image. To use the green screen a picture has to be taken in front of the green background but the settings on the camera need to be set correctly so that in post production the green is all one tone so it's easier to erase the green.

Before we started to shoot we all came up with one idea that we wanted to produce using the green screen. I came up with the idea of me appearing out of a lily flower, like the sun in the Teletubbies as a joke as I wanted to make something funny.

When we got to the studio we took all the photos we needed around the theme that I was going for. Once we had all the images we went down to edit the images. I tried to find a lily for my background but I couldn't find one that fitted with the images that had been taken so I decided to go for a zen garden as the background.

Once I had found my background I had to edit my images how I wanted them and then remove the green from the image. To do this I had to:

Click on add a mask button at the bottom of the page

Select -> Colour range -> use the eye dropped tool to select the green and then move the fuzziness scroll and take it all the way to 200 -> press ok

Press invert

This then leaves the figures on top of the background image

I then repeated this until I had all of the images I wanted on the background.

This is the first part of the image that I created but I felt that it need more characters on the background so I looked through more images that we took and thought about what I could add in. The image that I placed on here was taken originally to pop out of the lily but that didn't go to plan.

I decided to add in a picture that we had originally taken to go on lily pads next to me coming out of a lily but that didn't work out but I still found a use for image. Adding this image to the background added a bit of humour to the image but then I saw another image that added the final bit of humour to the image.

This is the final image which I'm really happy with as it just shows a lot of humour. It does look like it has been put together and looks highly edited but I wanted it to look like that as you would never normally see an image like this.

I would definitely use the green screen again and it is something that I've thought I could use in my project if the weather isn't nice enough to shoot out on location. I hadn't thought about this before but now I've used the green screen it is a lot easier than I thought and I would be confident to use it on my own.
