'' My work is about revealing an interpenetrating world. To that end, I use no manipulation whatsoever. I work with single-use and iPhone cameras because their limitations give me what I want, images that are close to the way our minds work. ''
~ Janet Sternburg
I have felt that researching into artists that create work using a disposable camera is important for my project. I have been shooting using a digital and disposable camera on nearly everyone of my shoots but I've felt that using a disposable camera isn't going to fit with my aesthetic anymore. I was intrigued to find out whether anyone uses disposable cameras as a way to create work to sell and exhibit.
Janet Sternburg is an artist of photography, a writer, a maker, an educator all in which is at the forefront of cultural change. She began taking photos in 1998 and since then her work has been exhibited in solo gallery shows in New York, LA, Berlin and Mexico, just to name a few. When she exhibited in Seoul Korea she received a commission for a full building installation using projection and several monitors. Her most recent work consists of work exhibited in Milan and India.
Her photographic work is described as the work of a visual poet. Her work has been written about many times in essays by many filmmakers, historians, poets and authors.
The photographic work by Sternburg doesn't have a lot of information about the images so I couldn't really understand the meaning behind each individual image but I could choose a couple of images which I liked and that linked to journey and memory. I've been really interested in researching into Sternburg because I didn't think I would be able to find someone that creates images using a disposable camera let alone someone who's been as successful as Sternburg.
