My final shoot was the shoot that has taken the most planning. This shoot happened a lot later on in my project than I wanted to but I never gave up with wanting to do it because I have so many memories here.
Why the Caravan?
I wanted this shoot to have the most images in my book because of all the different memories here. I wouldn’t have been able to shoot at the caravan site any time before March anyway as they don’t open for the season until the end of March. My dad doesn’t normally tend to go until August but will sometimes plan spontaneous trips up to his caravan before August but this year he decided not to. I had to ask whether he would mind if I went to take some pictures there, which he didn’t but we had to ask permission from the owners of the campsite just so that they were aware of what was going on. The final part of the organisation process was paying for the caravan to come out of the compound for the day.
Where did I want to shoot?
When I arrived at the campsite I didn’t really have a plan for what type of images I wanted to create because sometimes ideas come to me when I’m at the place, the only thought I’d had was to get images that didn’t have a lot in the frame. My dad let me loose and did his own thing around the caravan but set it up so that I could use the caravan as normal. I sat down in the caravan to think for 5 minutes about what images I was going to take. While I was doing this I was setting my camera up and was watching what my dad was doing out the window, this was when the penny dropped. I decided to do long exposures of my dad moving around and doing what he does whilst I’m sat around doing what I’m doing at the caravan. I then decided to do a couple of long exposures of what I do around the caravan. I then went on a walk and took pictures of what I saw on the walk.
My contact sheet:
I was really happy with how my images came out as I tried more than one different style of imagery. I wasn't sure about the darker images at first but since talking through them I've decided they're really effective.
I was glad my dad came with me on this shoot because without him I don’t think I would have got images that were as strong as these. I felt really positive after this shoot as it was my last shoot and everything had gone to plan. Some of the images are really badly over exposed but on some of them I managed to edit and some of them I realised they really weren't going to work but I'm really happy with the images I've turned out with.
