I want to get as many shoots done as possible and my last shoot wasn't what I want for my final images but since then I have been collecting more props for my shoot as I now know what I want my final images to look like. After looking on Pinterest for my first initial ideas I had an idea in my head that I wanted to create to the best of my ability today.
I still had everything that I used from the last shoot apart from the food as I ate that so I needed to buy some more food. I had also bought some small sweet jars to put some sweets in and I had collected an old gin bottle from where I work to put some odd looking liquid inside. The weather was nice so I decided to do it in the garden because I left it too late in the day to drive to a woods that I have been thinking of. The sun would have set by the tine we got anywhere. I got my cakes on the cake stand, my juice in the bottle, my sweets in the jars and my tea set on the table. The final things I needed was a table cloth and a model.
Once I had set my table up and got the model sorted I just had to set my camera up on it's tripod and set the settings on the camera. The weather was cloudy but wasn't raining or really sunny that day so it was the perfect weather for natural lighting. I started off the shoot with a couple of my model smiling so that I could check the settings and then I decided to set my camera on a timer so that I could get 10 pictures at once of the movements of picking up a cake or pouring a drink and then drinking it. I decided to do it this way because I couldn't think how else I would show the movement and the story of the tea party. I kept my camera at the same distance the whole time.
Below are the contact sheets from the shoot, as I went through the images on the camera before even turning them into a contact sheet I could see that if I flicked through the images I could see a narrative happening, which then gave me the idea of creating a flip/flick book. I was worried that when I looked on the contact sheet the lighting g looked a little dark but nothing too bad that I couldn't edit. Looking through the contact sheets I can see a couple of images where my model is looking at me laughing so I won't be using those. This shoot is the shoot where I have realised what aspects I want to be in my other shoots and what things I want to change and have in my next shoots.
Apart from the first few images, all of the images were shot on a timer with all of the same settings, nothing was changed during the shoot once the settings had been found. I like most of the images apart from the ones where my model is looking at me and smiling. I don't like these ones because in my opinion they just look unprofessional and I can tell that the model is looking at me and laughing because they don't know what to do and they find it amusing that I'm taking photos of them eating and drinking.
I have edited a set of images that show one story. I still have at least another two stories to edit. The images came out a lot lighter when on screen so I didn't have to edit them too much but I did want to increase the vibrance and saturation to add a bit more of a mystical feel to the images. When editing I had to remember to edit all of the images the same as they are going in a flick book so the images all need to look the same. All of the images that I have edited so far are my favourites because I can imagine all of the images as my final images in my book but there is still a lot that I want to add to my images before my final images are produced.
I enjoyed this shoot a lot more than the last shoot because I could see the story coming through as I was shooting the images. I really want to add a lot more things to the next shoots. On my next shoots I want to:
Shoot on location
Have teapots hanging from the trees
Have teacups hanging from the trees
Have more characters
Have a smaller table and chairs
Edit the images so that the background is darker and the models and the tea party are bright and colourful
Use a different lens
I couldn't work out how to show the movements in the images with any of the layouts on here but attached are the images that I have edited so far.
