Shoot 3 - Green Screen

Updated: Nov 15, 2018

Today I decided to experiment with my idea of using the green screen for my Alice in Wonderland inspired shoot. Before the shoot I had a little bit of a stressful day because I thought I had a little kids table at home that me and my sister used when we first moved into our house but my mum told me that it had been chucked away so I had to find a small kids set of table and chairs in a day. Luckily IKEA came to the rescue and I was able to get one from there, along with a few other bits for the shoot which you will see shortly.

At the same time I booked out the green screen I booked out some lighting and a Canon 7D as I wasn't able to book out a 5D as I got told in my last crit session to look at using different lenses and cameras so that's what I did.

Setting up the shoot:

Another thing I got told to do in my previous crit session was to video setting up my set and during the shoot which I did. I got into the studio and started setting up the table and chairs. I only decided to bring one chair because I only had one model and I couldn't carry it all. I then started putting the small tea set and the food onto the table, to start off with I just placed everything in a rough position and then positioned everything how I wanted it later on. Originally I was going to set four places for the tea party but then I just went with two because there wasn't enough space on the table as it's smaller than an average sized table. Once everything was on the table that's when I started to see how everything looked, I decided I only needed one jar of sweets as two over powered the table. I then re positioned the cups and then added some playing cards to the table. I had also bought some decorations to hang down from above but there was nowhere that I could reach in order to hang anything so I'll have to save that for my location shoot. The final bits were then added to the table, the bottle of drink and the final positioning of props. I have attached a video below of my setting up my set:

During the shoot:

I set up my camera ready for the shoot, got all the settings right and got it on the tripod I was shooting and then the camera all of a sudden broke. I had pretty much nearly finished my shoot which was annoying. The camera was saying that the card couldn't be accessed so I quickly ran around college trying to find a spare computer to import the images on to because my Mac doesn't have the right connection, turns out the Mac's at college didn't either so I had to resort back to my own camera, which luckily I had bought with me. This isn't what I wanted to do but at least I had a backup and the images have actually come out a lot better than I thought they would. Attached below are my contact sheets:

I wanted to shoot closer up to my model so that the viewer would be able to see more of what was on the table but then I felt that it didn't show the comparison of size between the model and the table like I wanted so I took images further out as well which I think I personally prefer. All of the images apart from the ones of the table on it's own were shot on a timer with the same settings, nothing apart from the zoom and the position of my model slightly changed throughout the shoot. I haven't looked at the images in detail apart from the times I looked on the camera screen. I wanted to try and get my model to not keep looking at me throughout the shoot because in my last shoot my model kept looking at the camera on the last few shots of each series of images.

This shoot was such much more successful than my previous shoots because:

  • I had a smaller table

  • I had a smaller tea set

  • I had smaller food

  • I had smaller saucers

  • I used the green screen

  • I tried to use a different camera
