My Manifesto

For my manifesto project I will photograph a number of places I visited as a child and growing up. These places hold very significant memories towards me.

My images will show memories of me growing up as a child through into adulthood by using an array of different camera techniques and even different cameras.

I will create a series of landscape images

I will present my final images in a A4 sketchbook style book with a single image on each page.

I want to be able to tell a story of my childhood through the book.

I want it to be personal

I want it to be like a diary

I want my final work to include writing of why each place means what it does to me

I will start to look through old family photo albums of previous family holidays and start to map out where I want to visit.

I will go and do a location scout at all the places I have mapped out to visit.

I will look at all the images taken and critique them and go and re shoot at the places I need to.

I will re shoot more than once if I need to.

I want to shoot at Perranporth beach in Cornwall because it’s where I used to visit regularly to visit family friends and I used to learn how to bodyboard there. It brings back and lot of memories of living near the sea and going on walks in the summer during the sunset.

I want to shoot at Hengar Manor in Bodmin because although I don’t remember visiting, it will be nice to re visit where I went when I was younger.

I want to shoot in Tintagel as it’s where the Boscastle floods happened which I remember learning about when I was younger in school.

I want to shoot at Fistral Beach because this is where Boardmaster’s Festival is held every year. Although I’ve not been to Boardmaster’s I visited Fistral Beach when the surf championships were ongoing and I loved it.

I want to shoot at Port Isaac because I have visited here a lot. It’s where Doc Martin is filmed. I have been here lots with my family on day trips with my dogs.

I want to shoot at Bude because I have been here three times whilst growing up. I went on two school residential trips in Bude. During the visits I went on morning runs and went surfing and bodyboarding. I have been back since a couple of years ago and the residential building where I stayed and it is now no longer in use but the areas in Bude I visited are there.

I will shoot at Beer and Lyme Bay together because I stayed here after my birthday one year and we visited a lot of areas around these two areas.

I will shoot in Dorset and Weymouth because on the same holiday I visited these places.

I will shoot on the moors if I have time because I have grown up living by the moors and they hold special memories for me.

I will shoot in London because it’s a city that I love because there’s so much going on. There’s so many places to visit, the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster, the list can go on. I want to do long exposures at night to show how busy the city is at night.

I want to visit either Paignton or Dartmoor zoo because both hold significant memories. I went to Paignton Zoo a lot growing up and even sponsored an animal and Dartmoor Zoo I visited with my grandparents. The film we bought a zoo was filmed at Dartmoor Zoo.

I want to visit Stone Henge as I visited here on my annual holiday away in Devon.

I will visit Tiverton Canal and Yeatheridge Caravan Park because this is where I go every year in August. The canal and the caravan park hold fond memories of spending time with my dad and his dog who unfortunately isn’t with us anymore.

I will research into Sally Waterman with her series of images from her PastPresent photographic series.

I want to research into Nick White again because his images of the moors and bothies are the type of images that I want to create to get the images that are in my head into my final book.

I will get help to help my critical writing improve because this is a skill I need to improve on.

I will research Paul White’s series of personal images, his story behind the images isn’t exactly the same but some of the images he has created are similar to what I would like to create.

I will research into Ben Phillips because his work is really similar to the work that I would like to produce and has even visited some the places I would like to visit.

I might look into Andy Davidson because he has done a personal project into Devon landscapes and has produced images that I love and would love to create myself. One of his images which I have included below is very similar to an image I have taken before.

I want to research a lot more into Hye-Ryoung Min because her imagery isn’t exactly the aesthetic I’m imagining my images looking like but the stories and the thought behind her images is what drew me into her work before.
