On day 3 we all had an induction on the college online booking system and on the Nikon d90 (a DSLR camera)
For the online booking system we got shown how to navigate around the site and how to book equipment out without going to the ERC. We can choose what day and what time we take the equipment out and what day and time we bring it back. Normally the maximum amount of the days you can rent equipment out for is three days as this is how long pople on average seem to need the equipment but if we need to have the equipment for longer then we just have to ask and have proof of what we need it for.
Later on, after break we had the DSLR induction. During the induction we got taught how to format the SD card, set white balance (WB), set different ISO and the focus and zoom dial.
If I was to rent out a camera from the ERC I would need to check that the SD card had been formatted beforehand. To do this you press both format buttons together for 3 seconds. The screen will then flash 'for'. When this has happened you just simply press both buttons down again but the buttons must not be held down.
To set my white balance (WB) I would press the white balance button (WB) and on the screen it will come up with 'O'. My white balance (WB) always needs to be set to 'A' for automatic.
To make sure I get the largest quality JPEG I need to press my quality button and scroll the dial on the camera until it says 'L' and then fine. 'L' stands for 'largest quality JPEG'.
ISO is sensitive the camera lens is to light in certain lights. The higher the ISO the more sensitive the camera lens is to light. In the darker situations you set the ISO higher. If the ISO is higher the images come out quite noisy.
The lower the ISO the less sensitive the camera lens is to light. Low ISO is designed for brighter situations which means that the images come out less noisy.
If there is a good amount of light the ISO should be set to between 200-400.
The smaller dial on the camera is tthe focus dial and the bigger dial is the zoom dial.
