My Visual Diary: Week 1, Day 1

This afternoon we got given our first assignment brief 'My Visual Diary'. This means that we have to do things that are related to 'My Visual Diary' . In my opinion it was very vague and the topic could mean anything which I was a bit unsure about but this afternoon we made a mindmap on the board in the lecture room with all different ideas as to what we could include.

The image that I took this afternoon isn't the best of quality but some of the ideas we came up with are: food, hobbies, society, landscapes, selfies, OOTD's, journey to college, family/friends and pets.

After we spoke through this I felt a little more confident about what to include in my assignment and I decided to include things in my everyday life so I decided to set up a new Instagram account so that I could post my pictures for the aiignment on there instead of my personal Instagram account. My Instagram account includes pictures of food, landscapes and animals so far but as my everyday life goes on I will get a wider variety of pictures.

I also wrote my initial thoughts to the brief earlier on this is what I wrote:

My initial thought to the brief given to me this afternoon was that it was quite a vague and open topic. In one way I felt that this was good because it would give me the opportunity to photograph lots of different things in different scenes and sets without restrictions but on the other hand I felt that it was a bit too open where I didn’t know what sort of things to photograph. After the brief was given to us we started to mind map ideas on the board with everyone so that everyone had an idea of where to start and so that we could all share our ideas. After we had done this I started to feel more confident in the brief and started to mind map my own ideas of what I want to do for my own response to the brief.

I have made a new Instagram in order for me to post several photos that I have taken in one day on there. I plan to try and post at least one photo on my new Instagram account a day which will help to document my daily life for ‘My Visual Diary’. I am planning on photographing the weather outside at different times of the day and posting on my Instagram account some of the pictures taken. I am also planning on trying to photograph some interior design shots to try and see if they fit in with the brief. With some of the ideas I have come up with I’m not too sure whether they will fit with the brief but I will have to experiment as I progress through the assignment. Also on my Instagram account I will try and post pictures of food in an interesting way, my train journey to and from college and dog walks. I will also shoot some portrait shots to go into my blog which I am planning on creating in the next couple of days. I think portrait shots will look good in the brief because they are what I like to take pictures of and what I try to do on a regular basis so will fit in with my daily life. I will also focus on landscape photos as I go on dog walks and always find things to take pictures of.

I have researched a lot of photographers on Instagram whose pictures I am interested and inspired by. I have looked at different topics:​

I already have some ideas of what I want to photograph and where. I've also had an idea to create a new Instatgram account to document my everyday life of photos on there. When I get home I am going to create my new Instagram account. My plans for my Instagram account are to add pictures of dog walks, OOTD's, journeys to college and back from college - these could also include videos of my journey to th train station by car in the morning and by foot on the way home, food and anything else that I do in a day.
