My Visual Diary: Week 2, Day 1

This morning we all had a briefing just like we do every Monday morning. The briefing this morning was about how we come across to people and how we present ourselves to other people. We got split into our seperate courses who gave us individual tasks. Our task was to come up with a pitch tp present to 12 or so people. We had to chose an item or service and attempt to convince others that it is something useful or desirable that they might wish to purchase or want to use in the future.

We could chose how we wanted to do our pitch, we could either do it really well or do it really wrong to show how it should and shouldn't be done. We decided to do our pitch in quite a professional way as it woud get us used to pitching and presenting in the future.

Task 1 was to make a quick list of important presenting tips so that we had an idea of how to behave and act while presenting we decided to do this as a group so that we all had the same sort of ideas.

Our ideas were:

- be confident

- be prepared

- have good body language

- remember eye contact

- be confident and know about the product/service your selling

Task 2 was to actually choose our pitch. We had to decide what we wanted to sell. Some suggestions from other people were to advertise for a photography business but we decided to pitch the idea for an umbrella as it had been raining this morning and I had to walk in the rain from the train station with a broken umbrella so an umbrella seemed like an appropriate topic to pitch.

Task 3 was to design the pitch. We came up with a list of things that were good about the umbrella and then split the points into three so that we all had something to talk about. We all ended up with three points each to talk about. I spoke about: how compact the umbrella is, how lightweight it is and how much coverage you get from the umbrella. I then expanded my three points so that I had some sort of rough script to guide me along my points were:

The umbrella is a very compact item that will fit in your handbag

The umbrella is lightweight as you can carry it around without it weighing your bag down

With the umbrella you never get wet as it is a dome shape so you are 100% protected from the rain. Also if you want to be protected from the sun, the sun will reflect off the umbrella.

Task 4 was the pitch. The pitch task didn't go very well as not everyone was listening to us and weren't very serious about how they presentied their pitch towards us but my group actually wanted to be serious about presenting a pitch as we know that we will have to present pitches to others in the future. One of our course leaders came in and asked us how we were getting on and how many of us had presented and people said 'all of us' but he said that we coudn't all have gone as each pitch needed to be between 3-5 minutes per pitch. After he had spoken to us Chris stayed in the room to make sure that one groupp actually presented their pitch and to make sure thait we had the chance to do our pitch properly. We got to do our pitch properly but we had some constructive critisim to consider for next time this was:

- to think about body language

- to go into more detail about the product

- to be more confident in the product

- to be a little bit more convincing

This was the task we had to complete

This was task 1 and 2

This was task 3 and 4
