This morning we had a shoot called 'The Really Brief Brief'. This meant that we had been asked by a company to take pictures for their new website. The brief was really brief hense the name of the task but we did have words that the company wanted us to portray in several pictures, some of the words were: - togetherness- fun- quirky- colourful- adventureThe company wanted us to photograph as many of these words in a few images which meant that in some pictures they wanted more than one of the words to be protrayed in one picture but we didn't have to use all of the words. We were in groups of 3, in my group we all came up with a location and a few words that we wanted to try and portray in the pictures. We wanted to try and portray togetherness, fun, colourful and maybe adventure. The location we came up with was Royal Parade by the bus stops where there is a long row of benches sheltered by lots of trees. When we got down to Royal Parade in the area that we wanted to photograph we had to set the camera to the correct ISO and white balance but where we were initially stood the lighting wasn't good so we moved up and found the correct spot. These were the images we came up with:This photo above portrays the word 'fun'. This photo wasn't actually supposed to be a serious final image as we were just joking about how we were going to do the action for the image and this was taken as a practise lighting image for the camera but turned out to be a good final image as it doesn't look like the pose was set up at all.

This photo is supposed to show the words 'togetherness and adventure' as we are both walking down together and looks as if were about to go on an adventure somewhere. I like this image because the effect that one person looking back has on the audience is quite powerful and mysterious.

This image is very similar to the image above portraying 'togetherness and adventure'. The only difference to this image is that both of us are turned around and looking at the camera which makes it a little less mysterious.

This was the image that we chose for our final image as we thought that it really fitted the brief as it powerfully shows 'togetherness'. We showed this to the class and they felt that this image was mysterious but also showed a lot of emotion through the image.
This afternoon we got given our next four week assignment project, called 'The Collective'. This project is all about advertising ourself as an independant photographer and to advertise ourselfs as a group of photographers.
To get ourselfs started we researched different platforms of social media that we could use to advertise ourselves and to get ourselves out there and known for what we do. I looked at: Instagram, Facebook, Flickr, 500px, Vimeo but only Instagram, Facebook and Flickr appealed to me.
I already have an Instagram account that I set up primarily for my photography for the last assignment 'My Visual Diary'. As I already have an Instagram I thought it would be a good idea to carry on posting my pictures on there as nobody would be interested in an Instagram account that doesn't have any recent posts.
I then looked at Facebook pages as I had thought about setting up a Facebook page in the past but wasn't sure how professional it would look. I'm still not sure on making a Facebook page but I know that some people in my class have made one so I'm going to see how successful they are with theirs and consider it.
Flickr was very appealing to me as it has lots of professional photographs on there. I describe Flickr as the professional photographers Instagram. I thought this was better to post my pictures on than Instagram in a way because on Instagram anyone can join and put any picture they like on there but on Flickr anyone can join but the people who do join post very high quality images.
Also in the afternoon we had a little lecture on portrait photographers: David Bailey, Rankin, Mario Testino and Platon. We looked at some of the facts about them and watched a short clip of a couple of the photographers and then went off to do our own research. In our research we had to find a few images by each of the photographers that we liked and that we could try and recreate tomorrow in a shoot. I found these images of David Bailey's that I liked of Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy:

I then found three photos by Rankin of Mary - Kate Olsen, Gemma Aterton and Chloë Sevigny:

I chose these photos because they were colourful and thought that they would be different to black and white images that I have taken before.
The Mario Testino photo that I found and really liked was one of Beyonce. I liked this one because it looked so elegant and looked like it was taken with ease.

I then found one of the Bee Gees and one of David Bowie:

Finally, the last person I looked at was Platon. Platon was quite an interesting photographer to look at because he has taken a lot of photos for the royal family as he is the royal families photographer.
