This morning we were finally allowed to be let loose in a studio, to be taught about all the different technical things you need to know in order to have a successful shoot.

First of all, we had to start off with the health and safety of being in a studio. We got given a sheet of paper with all of the health and safety rules but also spoke through them as well so that we all understood.

After we got all the health and safety out of the way we started to learn about the settings that we need to set our camera to when using the lighting in the studio as its different to continuous lighting. The settings you need to have the camera on are:

- Manual made

- Manual focus

- The lowest ISO possible

- The shutter speed on 1/125 - so that the flash syncs speed

- Use a light meter for aperture

- Use auto or flash white balance

- Use an infrared trigger to fire flash

*MAKE SURE THE CAMERA ISN'T SET TO ISO AUTO*

To make sure that the settings on the camera and the settings on the lights are the same you need to use a sekonic light meter.

On the sekonic light meter there is a mode button which has three different symbols. A sun symbol, a flash symbol and a flash symbol with a c next to it. Generally we have to set the light meter to the flash symbol. There is then an ISO 1 button which lets you set the ISO to 200. To set the apeture you need to put the light meter against the main highlight of the object you are photographing for example, if you were photographing a model you would measure from their cheek area as that is the main highlight area.

This is similar to what the light meter will look like once its been set up.

We were then allowed to start taking pictures in the studio using the d90. These are some pictures of the behind the scenes process of taking the pictures and setting the lighting.
