Newspaper bias and skills assessment

This afternoon we had a session on reflecting on what we think were good at and what we need to recap on. In the skills assessment I said that I was good at:
- learning new skills
- inspiration
and that I needed to recap on:
- depth of field
- shutter speed
- white balance
- ISO
- aperture
- studio controls in the cove studio
To help with the things I needed to recap on I found someone that thought they were good at the things I wasn't so confident on so that they could explain it to me in a way that I would hopefully understand it a bit better.
From the session I got to understand more about aperture, shutter speed and ISO. We also went through how to structure the project by splitting into beginning, middle and end.
Beginning: ideas and research
Middle: proposal, planning ahead, experiments, making
End: show, final work, evaluation
I felt that by having a student explaining aperture and shutter speed helped me because I was with other people who weren't confident on the same thing so didn't make me feel embarassed for saying that I didn't know what I wanted to know. Also, by structuring the next assignment helped because I now know what I should be doing before other things as I was a little unsure.
Newspaper bias:
The first thing we got asked was whether we knew the meaning of bias. I know the meaning of bias but also get a bit confused so going over the definition was good for me. In a nut shell bias means having an opinion on something but only having one opinion on one side of the arguement.
Our task was to look through several newspapers and to highlight all the bits that we found to be bias. The main things we found to be bias were stories written on celebrities which turned out to be twisting the truth.
I didn't really understand why we did the exercise at first but then I realised that we should really know what is going on in the news and to read about things more.
