Process of Abstraction

This morning we got given a photography challenge to experiment in Photoshop. We had to take one of our photos and turn it into a photo that was unrecognisable from the original, this is called the process of abstraction. First, I started off by taking the one image and duplicated the layer another 11 times. I did this by using the magic wand tool to select the background and delete the pieces of background on layers 2-12. Once I had done this it left me with the model figure and no background so I could move the model around the page without the background getting in the way. I came up with an idea of putting the model figure in front of another one which I thought gave a good effect. Once I had got the picture line dup how I wanted it to be and look I added colour as it looked boring just being in black and white and still looked too much like the original image.

When I added one colour to the picture I thought that I could add more than one colour so that it would stand out even more. I decided to keep the back picture in black and white so that it would make it look a little bit different however it stills adds a sense of the original image. When I had added the colours to the different pictures I could see where I had missed erasing some of the background but I noticed it in time so it wasn't too late to erase those parts.

Once I had added the colours and I was happy about the colours being the right ones and blending in correctly I still thought that it was still too 'original' so I decided to mix the faces up by changing the direction and the angles of the models. I wanted to keep the sense of the lines in the image so I changed the angle and direction of every other image.

Overall, I am fairly happy with how my pictures turned out but if I was to do it again I might just make the final image so that it just has the faces rotated as on the red image you can see the models shoulder which I don't think fits the picture as well. Also, I would add a bit more to the picture on the left hand side as it seems a bit bare on the left hand side.
