Religious views on same sex marriage

I chose to look at what religious believers think about same sex marriage because I have always thought that a lot of religious believers don't agree in gay marriage because they believe that God created us to marry someone of the opposite sex to us. In this survey that was taken in 2011 it shows that the general public have a 50/50 opinion on same sex marriage but the unaffiliated, non - Christian affiliated, Catholic and white mainline all favour towards gay marriage. However, black protestant and white evangelical all oppose against same sex marriage.
I found this data which has been last updated in 2011 but I then looked again and found an article on the BBC which was last updated in 2015. The BBC news tells us that more than 15,000 same sex couples have married since the law was changed in March 2014.
