This afternoon we were talking about different sub-cultures from different decades and how they came about. We didn't so much talk about stereotypes but we did think about how we would stereotype people into.
What is Identity?
The fact of being who or what a person or thing is.
What is a Stereotype?
A widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.
What is a sub-culture?
A cultural group within a larger culture, often having beliefs or interests at variance with those of the larger culture.
In the 1950's rock n' roll was just being invented and the sub-culture of teddy boys and girls was becoming a thing. Teddy boys and girls was when young boys and girls wore clothes that were partically inspired by the styles worn by dandies in the Edwardian period. The film Grease is an example of teddy boys and girls. One photographer that was around was Chris Steele-Perkins. Steele-Perkins is a British photographer and member of Magnum Photos. I don't think the photo below was taken in the 1950's because Steele-Perkins was only young in the 50's. This photo has been taken by Chris Steele-Perkins but I think it must have been in the late 60's/70's.
In the 1960's sub-cultures like the Mods and the Rockers. The Mods and Rockers were two conflicting youth sub-cultures.

We had a lecture on stereotypes and sub - cultures because we are still quite stuck on what to base our project around so this could be an idea. Since the lecture I have tried to research into this further but I'm just not really interested into this sort of thing. It was interesting to have a talkk about it but I don't want to take it further into my project as I already have a slight idea.
