What I really thought of my 3D sculptures!

To be able to complete this assignment I have had to show that I am able to create artwork that is 2D, 3D and 4D. For my 3D artwork I have created a sculpture made out of rubbish from the beach as we got given a task to create a 3D piece of artwork out of rubbish that we collected from our beach clean that we did on Mount Edgecumbe. For this part of the assignment I managed to create two pieces of 3D artwork out of rubbish. The first piece of artwork that I created was a tractor out of the rubbish from Mount Edgecumbe and the second piece of artwork was a 3D sculpture of a person made on Whitsand Bay.
I was trying to portray the fact that there is so much rubbish that has been washed up on the beach that has been made by human waste, so much so that we can even make a sculpture of a person on the beach out of human clothing and accessories that have been washed up on the beach! I was trying to show this through my sculpture as I find it shocking how much of our own items end up getting washed up on shore and we don’t realise how much it effects the environment and the marine life. I wasn’t too sure what my purpose for creating my tractor was but I guess it was to portray the same sort of thing as my sculpture on the beach as my tractor was also made out of rubbish that we found on the beach.
To create my sculpture I used a few different materials that I managed to find off of the beach. I used: a piece of wood, intertwined pieces of netting, a builder’s helmet, a black pole, a rubber glove, a trainer and a welly.
To construct my sculpture we all worked as a team and searched the beach to see if we could find some string to attach our pole which was going to be the arms to our sculpture. Fortunately we found some rope that we able to attach the pole to the piece of wood. All of the others objects that we found to put towards our sculpture were things that were easy to balance or hook onto our sculpture. With my tractor I didn’t need to find anything to attach any of the components together as I created the tractor on a piece of paper. Once I had finished creating both pieces of my artwork recorded the final pieces by photographing them:

Overall, I think my sculpture on the beach was more effective than my little sculpture of the tractor. I think my sculpture on the beach of the person was more effective because it actually looks 3D and brings across more of a message than my tractor does. I don’t think that my tractor was as effective because although my tractor has been made out of rubbish it doesn’t really look 3D as I have constructed it on a piece of paper. I didn’t come across many problems when I was constructing my sculpture the only thing that I can think of is that we were maybe a little unorganised which was really a problem I would say that it is something to improve on next time.
