Dartmeet is one of my chosen places to photograph on Dartmoor. I have chosen Dartmeet as I have visited before and it is a beautiful place and also a tourist attraction.
Dartmeet
Dartmeet is known as a famous beauty spot where the east and west branches of the River Dart meet in the steep, wooded valley of Dartmeet. At dartmeet you can see the stone clapper bridge, becaus eof this, many people choose here to gather to picnic, lie in the sun and head across the moor in search for adventure. Nearby is Pixieland which is a magical place full of Pixie's a great place for children. While I am visiting Dartmeet I may have to visit Pixieland as it sounds like a very interesting place for some photography.
Clapper Bridge
A clapper bridge is an ancient form of bridge made out of large flat slabs of stone usually granite, found on Dartmoor and Exmoor and also in other upland areas of the UK. Clapper bridges are supported on stone piers that are across rivers or resting on the banks of streams. Clapper bridges are also found in Snowdonia and Anglesey, Cumbria, Yorkshire and Lancashire. Most clapper bridges were built in medieval times, they are usually situated close to a ford where carts could cross. According to DNP the word 'clapper' originates from an Anglo - Saxon word, cleaca meaning 'bridging the stepping stones'.
