Vitali vs Gursky

Today I got shown two artists Massimo Vitali and Andreas Gursky. Both Vitali and Gursky are interesting artists as they both have images that are completely different but that my images can relate to.

This is an image by Vitali, in the background of the image you can see that he has made the landscape look very misty and very dull. I thought that my images from Plymouth Hoe looked similar to the background of this image because when I went to Plymouth Hoe the sky was very dull and quite grey. With one of my images from Plymouth Hoe I tried to edit it to made it look like a similar version to a Massimo Vitali image.

The top image is Vitali's image of the background of his original image and the bottom image is my version of Vitali's work using my own picture. To me, my picture looks like it shows more blue in the picture than Vitali's image but I do think they look quite similar. Even though our two images were taken in different places they look like they could have been taken from the same place but one from a closer distance. To make my image like this I, changed the brightness and the contrast, I put the vibrancy up by 100, I changed the hue and saturation and I looked at the colour balance. I am quite happy with how my version of an image in the style of Vitali has turned out.

One image of Vitali's really stood out to me as it actually leads the eye from the bottom of the image down along to the end of the image where it narrows. This effect is called one - point perspective.

I then looked at Andreas Gurskey's work. His work is all very confusing as it doesn't have one focal point so your eyes get lost in what their supposed to be looking at. I tried a similar picture with the same image that I took on Plymouth Hoe. With the image above I have tried to make it look similar to Gursky's by cropping the image slightly so that my image didn't have anything distracting it. My image however does have a slight focal point as my image has a slight line across the horizon that slightly fades out which sometimes could draw attention.
