Mount Edgcumbe

Today we went across on the Cremyll Ferry over to Mount Edgcumbe. Mount Edgcumbe had personally asked us if we would go over to the grounds and the house to shoot some new pictures for their brand new website that they are creating.

When I had previously gone to do the beach clean at Mount Edgcumbe I thought I had passed the house but when we arrived there today we started to walk up a driveway and then up a really steep hill. At the top of the hill was the house.

When I had finally climbed up the hill with my camera and tripod and caught my breath we were greeted by the house manager who explained to all of us what he wanted us to achieve as he was our client. He said that he wanted us to produce photographs and videos of the grounds and the house but he also wanted to show what else was beneath the grounds. He said to all of us that a lot of people don't realise where the house is- as they walk straight of the Cremyll Ferry and will either go to The Edgcumbe pub or they will walk down to the beach without realising what is actually there, this was true in my case as I don't live in Plymouth I didn't realise that the house was in a different location to the beach etc. He then went through what was actually within the grounds of Mount Edgcumbe. There is a lot more there than people would ever imagine.

There is:

- Earl's Garden (you have to pay to be able to enter Earl's Garden).

- The Barrow Centre

- Blacksmith's

- Adventure Segway

- The Stables Cafe

- Artists Studios

- The Orangery

The list could still go on...

He also explained to us that as Mount Edgcumbe is free to visit apart from the Earl's Garden a lot of people take advantage of the house and surrounding places because of this. As a result Mount Edgcumbe only survives on funding from Plymouth City Council and Cornwall Council which eventually will stop which could potentially mean that Mount Edgcumbe has to sell to a private buyer.

After listening to what our client wanted us to produce we were set off to shoot external shots for the first hour. The images underneath are the images that I came up with. I am very happy with these images because I feel that I have shown some of the places behind the house. I have shown in my pictures the outside seating of the cafe along with the entrance to the artist Chris Thorn's working art studio and the entrance to the cafe. I then have two edited shots of the exterior of the Mount Edgcumbe house.
